A World In Chaos

Bombs fall in Iran Saturday

I want to be upfront: I’m coming at this as someone on the left who is deeply opposed to this administration. But I also think some people on my side of the aisle are getting this wrong, and I’d rather be honest than score easy points.

Khamenei’s regime was authoritarian, theocratic, and brutal — particularly toward women, queer people, and political dissidents. Iranian people have been risking their lives protesting it for years. I’m not going to pretend otherwise just because Trump is the one who pulled the trigger.
But that’s exactly what makes this so maddening.

Trump has now launched what is clearly a large-scale war — strikes on Tehran, US troops killed, Iranian missiles targeting countries across the Middle East — and Congress has not authorized any of it. The War Powers Act. Article I. None of it apparently matters anymore.

The left’s anti-war position has never been about defending every regime America goes after. It’s about who gets to make the decision, who pays the price, and what comes next. And right now:

— One man made this call alone.
— Working class kids in the military are paying the price.
— Nobody has any idea what the endgame is.

I’m not confused about who the bad guys are. I’m furious that this administration gets to play hero while bypassing every democratic check that exists — and that some people will cheer for it because the target was easy to hate.

We deserve better than this. The Iranian people deserve better than this. And the troops being sent into this deserve way better than this.
