Tim Walz For Senate?
Some news today gives us an idea of the path forward for Governor Tim Walz.
New breaking today Feb 13th tells us he is looking to run for a senate seat.
For all of you that do not know, Democratic Sen. Tina Smith announced earlier Thursday she would not seek reelection. Boom, open door for Walz.
Thing is, he might be needed in Minnesota. Walz, the former vice presidential nominee, could also run for reelection as governor in 2026.
Progressive Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) didn’t rule out a run, either. “Congresswoman Omar will be talking with Minnesotans about the future of the Senate seat and DFL party in Minnesota,” a spokesperson said.
Walz’s office declined to comment on the race.
So why am I enjoying the idea of Walz running for senate? A few reasons…
Legislative Experience: Walz served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019, giving him over a decade of federal legislative experience. This background could help him navigate the Senate effectively.
Executive Leadership: As governor since 2019, he has gained experience managing state-level issues, including crisis management (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic and civil unrest in Minnesota).
Bipartisan Appeal: While a Democrat, Walz has a background in rural Minnesota, which could help him appeal to a broader voter base.
Policy Focus: He has championed education, healthcare access, and infrastructure investment—key issues in the Senate.
If you support progressive policies and a pragmatic approach to governance, he could be a strong Senate candidate.
Im not sure what the future hold for Walz, but either way he has my support.
During the campaign he was a champion. He was direct with his message and we as a country could use the right now during a time where we are legitimately fighting for our democracy.
